TOURISM The natural conditions and geographical location of the Targovishte region in combination with its historical and cultural heritage are premises for development of varied tourist activity. Sites of tourist interest in Targovishte region are: The locality of Urumovo Tulip in the area Sverdzhi Bair The Waterfall in Targovishte Pass The rock formation named Kohya (The Horse) The Roman Bridge over the River Stara Reka The rock named Garbavata Cheshma The Silvery-Leaf Lime Tree in the area Ostrovat The fortresses Krumovo Kale and Kovachevsko Kale, Derventska Cave The copse Petka Balkan Iglikina meadow- the place of growing of the yellow cowslipIn some areas of the region grow exotic orchid varieties- hemantoglossum hircinum and limodrum abortivum in a rich population of 20-30 representatives. A wonderful place for development of ecological, rural and cognitive tourism is the area of Bogomolsko-Metchevo, along the River Stara Reka, Antonovo municipality. In 1875, the foreign traveler Felix Kanitz in his book “The Danube Bulgaria and the Balkan” compared the lovely scenery of Antonovo with the beauty of Northern Italy. Along the Stara Reka River, the visitor can enjoy marvelous views, river rapids, rope-bridges, fishing pools and a rich variety of plant species.
The typical village atmosphere can be experienced also in the area of Gorsko
Ablanovo village, Opaka municipality. 8 um away from this village is located
the Rock Monastery of Krepcha. The inscriptions in this monastery are
precious epigraph documents, denoting the highly developed culture of medieval
Bulgaria.
