CULTURE Targovishte Region is an authoritative and active cultural centre. It is a place of prestigious and successful traditional activities: International Aquarelle Planner “Nikola Marinov” National Art Exhibition “Aquarelle” Festivities of the Women and Girls` Choirs Theatrical Festival “Days of the Great Theater in the Small Town” International Festival of Professional Performances for Children “The Magic Curtain” International Cinematography Festival “Dimo Kolarov”- Popovo and etc.There are two functioning theatres- a drama theatre and a puppet theatre. There are three historical museums- in Targovishte, Popovo and Omurtag; 40 historical and photo-documentary collections; 5 art collections in Popovo, Antonovo, Opaka. The region has 151 immovable art monuments and 907 archeological monuments. Here work the Centre of Fine Arts- Targovishte, the Centre for Work with Children- Targovishte, Targovishte Brass Band, Targovishte Ballet Troupe and folk dance ensembles of the three ethnic groups, living in the region. Dozens of amateur art groups for children and adults enrich the regional cultural life. The orchestras for choral singing are with well-established traditions. The Art Gallery, named after the well-know Bulgarian artist Nikola Marinov, possesses the richest collection of his works. In the village of Bozhitsa (Antonovo municipality) is located the house-museum of another famous Bulgarian artist Yanaki Manasiev. The regional library of Targovishte has 322,725 library entities. With its cultural activities, Targovishte region carries on the tradition to participate in the national calendar of cultural events and to add some facts of the region’s cultural life to the European cultural variety. In our cultural institutes exists a reflex for survival, optimism, striving- thirst for identity, through prestigious creators and events.
