DEMOGRAPHIC CHARACTERISTICS

According to the 2001 census, on the territory of Targovishte region were recorded 142,872 inhabitants, of which 72,489 women and 70,383-men, representing 1.7% of the country’s population. In comparison with 1992 census, the population decreased by 5.6%. There are 64,201 dwellings for the region’s inhabitants. The average number of persons, living in one dwelling is 2.1. The region’s labour force is highly qualified, well motivated and comparatively cheap. Recent years` changes have led to alternations in human resources distribution. The number of the self-employed in one-man or family companies, as well as of the agricultural producers, has increased.
